Every time I listen to this kriti, I experience a feeling of pain and pleasure simultaneously. The last time I listened to it, I had to switch off my walkman exactly 4 times at different places because I couldn't take any more of that ecstatic pain. My guess is Tyagaraja composed this song when he was in agony and he did it so well that the feeling kinda gets through even now when someone sings it.

The meaning of the kriti from T.K.Govinda Rao's book:

"No one, however talented and virtuous he may be, can get rid of his mental afflictions without the help of a competent and compassionate guru.

Only a guru, who by the grace of the Lord has had spiritual illumination, can help counteract the mental anguish caused by inordinate attachment to wife and family. Such a person is indeed dear and close to this Tyagaraja."

Whose rendition? Got a sample yem-pee-3 of this kriti?

>>Whose rendition?
Sowmya maam's (with sir singing somewhere in the background).

Only got a cassette. But Shivkumar Kalyanaraman's website has an mp3 of SSI and musicindiaonline has B.Krishnamurthy, I think

i wonder why it pains u, wen u hav got good gurus...
and indeed its very much paining for me, as i am still in search of a a guru, who is the best in the field at the same time, the most benevolent and working for the cause of propreiting his knowledge to the next generation....definitely the songs meant for me..:))
